Throughout the year, our Amnesty International Action Circle hosts various special events, usually in solidarity with nationally and internationally-recognized human rights events. Click on the button below each image to learn more!
For International Women’s Day (Mar 8), we dedicate our letter writing to women human rights defenders and to women’s rights.
Highway Cleanup (first OR second Sat in May) is an event to support human rights and help the environment at the same time.
The annual Sisters in Spirit (Oct 4) event consists of a march and vigil in honour of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.
On Human Rights Day (Dec 10), we host Write for Rights alongside a special event that typically includes a silent auction and more.
Upcoming Special Events
Since 2019, women in the Lethbridge and surrounding area, organize a Memorial Walk in Downtown Lethbridge on Valentine's Day as a way to commemorate, honour, and bring awareness to the national tragedy of Missing and Murdered Women, Girls, Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA people.
The Women’s Memorial March Art Walk in the Nature Reserve Park along the Coalbanks Trail will be on display from February 14, 2025 until March 16, 2025. (Start from Helen Schuler Nature Centre parking lot at Coalbanks Trail.)
Highway Cleanup is our annual fundraiser that helps pay for stamps, letter writing supplies, and fund events throughout the year. Join us to help Amnesty Lethbridge clean up Alberta Highways and support our group in sending hundreds of letters around the world every year!
October 4th is a day where we honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). The violence experienced by Indigenous women and girls in Canada is a national tragedy. Family members, Indigenous community members, and concerned citizens gather for a memorial march and vigil to honour their memory.
