Amnesty International Action Circle Lethbridge is made up of Amnesty International supporters who meet once a month to work on human rights appeals by writing letters on specific cases as advised by Amnesty International Canada. We may also hold special events on human rights issues.

Joining Amnesty International Action Circle Lethbridge makes you an active participant in a worldwide movement to protect the rights of everyone under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It also is a good chance to learn about the human rights issues in different countries, and to meet other people who share your interests and concerns.

Haiti Then and Now

Friday, March 12, 2010

7:00pm – 10:00pm

Andy’s Place (AH100), University of Lethbridge

Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group, the International Student Association, the U of L Rotaract Club, Amnesty International, and the Management Students Society will be co-hosting a Haiti-themed evening on Friday, March 12th. The purpose of this event is two-fold: firstly to create awareness of the underlying causes of poverty in Haiti, and secondly as a fundraiser to provide relief from recent trauma in this area.

The evening will consist of:
-A special screening of “Aristide and the Endless Revolution” (synopsis below)
-A silent auction of art donated by local artists.
-Mingling and discussion (Cash bar and refreshments will be available)
-Live background music entertainment, provided by Stephen McGlenn, Thomas Fox, and Isaac
-Free drum workshop, drum circle, and acoustic jam following the announcement of silent auction winners!

Tickets will be sold with a suggested donation of $5, and will be available at the door, or by contacting the LPIRG office at the University of Lethbridge (www.lpirg.org). Proceeds from this event will go to the Red Cross, and donations of over $10 will be tax deductible.
