Happy New Year everyone! Let’s make 2016 a year of peace, justice and happiness by taking action and speaking out on behalf of those who cannot. Your voice matters and writing a letter can make a difference!
Please join us on Tuesday, January 5th from 7pm – 9pm at the Owl Acoustic Lounge here in Lethbridge to write letters for prisoners of conscience and urgent human rights actions. This Tuesday we will be writing letters to Saudi Arabian authorities to protect a poet from execution for apostasy. We will be writing the United Arab Emirates calling for an end to the torture of prisoners through the use of loud noise and music and writing to protect Chinese activists that are being deported from Thailand and likely sent back to China where they risk being tortured. We supply the pens, paper and postage all you need to do is write the letters!
We invite you to join Amnesty International Lethbridge for our annual Write for Rights event on December 10 from 6 – 10 pm at the Owl Acoustic Lounge here in Lethbridge!
Every year on December 10, which is also International Human Rights Day, Lethbridge and area community members come together to write letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience and those affected by human rights abuse and injustice. We supply everything you need – paper, pens and postage – we just need you to come and write the letters! Never written a letter like this before? No problem, we can help!
There will be live music, a silent auction, food, and drinks! The event is free, open to the public and is for all ages.
Music line-up includes: The Silkstones, VARS, Megan Brown (Dearly Departed), CKXU’s Aaron Trozzo, & more to come!
Amnesty International members, letter writers, and human rights supporters across Canada and around the world are getting ready to mark Human Rights Day, December 10th, by taking part in Write for Rights.
Please join us in writing a letter on human rights day — it’s a simple act that can save a life! Be part of the world’s biggest global movement taking action to demand justice, respect and protection for human rights and an end to human rights violations..
Together we can make a difference. With your help we can write and send more letters than last year, save more lives, reunite more families and gain more dignity and respect for human rights globally.
The event is at the Round Street Cafe from 6-930pm. We supply all the letter writing materials, all you need to do is show up and write! There will be live entertainment, refreshments, and door prizes.
